Breaking News: The Supreme Leader of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei is Dead.

Today, on February 28, 2026, in the aftermath of a combined US-Israeli strikes on Iran, President Donald J. Trump announced that the leader of Iran was dead, killed in an air strike that hit his compound.1 Many Iranians who had been crying for a change are rejoicing, not just within Iran but also those in the diaspora who, for a long time, have looked on helplessly as their home continued to be degraded and turned into an extremist prison by its brutal leadership.

Before this momentous death, international headlines have been about the tens of thousands of protestors who have been killed, tortured, and imprisoned for wanting a change.2 Now the question is if the United States has a plan for Iran; flashbacks of failed regimes of the past may have Americans especially anxious at this time, as they would rather not be involved in foreign conflicts but focus on domestic troubles. While it is clear that outsiders meddling in local affairs is not good, it is also true that to ignore a people’s cry for help is cruelty and intervening in Iran is a godsend for its people. Furthermore, for those not moved by moral arguments, it is also clear that it was not very strategic for the Iranian Regime to continue to fight against Israel, resist peace talks in the region, badmouth the United States and simultaneously suppress its own people at home.
